< takyoji>
Anyone know of a REALLY good PHP editor?
00:19
< takyoji>
or just at least something that's color cordinated?
00:20
< McMartin>
emacs should have a mode for it
00:21
< takyoji>
you mean, a Mac basically?
00:22
< takyoji>
or..
00:22
< takyoji>
and editor called emac?
00:23
< takyoji>
otherwise a friend had just suggested Crimson Editor
00:26
< ToxicFrog>
No, an editor called "emacs"
00:26
< ToxicFrog>
NEdit probably has a mode for it as well, and SciTE.
00:29
< takyoji>
ahh
00:33
< Vornicus>
emacs: the world's biggest text editor.
00:34
< Vornicus>
It was featured at the 1983 Texas state fair, and all the farmers stood leaning on the fence around it and said "yep. That's pretty big."
00:36
< Vornicus>
And then one of them tried to ride it.
00:36
< Vornicus>
It is said that he ended up in Budapest, and shouted something to the effect of "what the hell was that?"
00:37
< ToxicFrog>
There is a saying: "emacs is a decent operating system; all it needs now is a decent text editor"~
00:38
< ToxicFrog>
Personally, I prefer NEdit and nano.
00:40
< McMartin>
Nano is terrible for code.
00:46
< Vornicus>
indeed
00:46
< ToxicFrog>
True.
00:46
< ToxicFrog>
It is, however, fine for getting X11 working so that I can use NEdit.

00:51
< Vornicus>
SciTE is the editor I use on WIndows.
00:52
< Vornicus>
It handles PHP, I think
00:54 * ToxicFrog has given up on SciTE and just uses NEdit on everything.

02:35
< takyoji>
The script is supposed to create a row of a table for a name of a category (line 3-10) then, its supposed to create another row which contains multiple subcategories, but its suppose to show only $detail (as a declareable number) subcategories per category (line 11-23). But, in example. When $detail equals 8, it prints the first category, and its five subcategories, prints another category row, but prints 3 subcategories when ther

look to the right: http://71.82.141.6:444/store/
02:38
< takyoji>
that's what the script is supposed to create
02:39 * Janus understands pictures.
02:41
< takyoji>
so, as you see under pond supplies, there are 6 subcategories which is all the categories for pond supplies. But, under Pond lighting there are only 2 when I actually want it to limit to 8 subcategories for each category. So, it's accidentally running where 8 is the limit for subcategories, not 8 subcategories per category
02:43
< takyoji>
So, if you add 6 subcategories to 2, it equals 8. Which shows that it isn't reseting $count after it's done printing subcategories for a category
02:45
< takyoji>
I suppose I'll have to figure it out myself
02:47 * Janus isn't familier with PHP, but could you simply put $count = "0"; in the first while statement, before it runs the second one(?)
02:48
<@Vornicus>
ah, I can always count on Chalain for a novel.

does break stop it from using the while statement throughout the execution?
02:54

<@Vornicus>
break ends the innermost loop, generally
02:54
<@Janus>
Vectors sure are nifty-bits.
02:55
< takyoji>
because lets say I have loop 2 in loop one and I break loop 2
02:55
< takyoji>
would loop wouldn't be executed again, correct?
02:55
< takyoji>
loop 2*
02:57
< takyoji>
actually I think I found 'continue' could be used in such a situation
02:58
< takyoji>
whoops, misread the documentation
02:59
<@Janus>
Speaking of vectors, actually, I think I'll set asside path planning for another time; collision avoidance is a much better fit for what I'm trying to do.
02:59
<@McMartin>
If you want to break out of multiple loops at once, many languages have a "break {label}" command.
02:59
<@Vornicus>
continue goes back to the beginning of the innermost loop.
02:59
<@Vornicus>

23:13
<@Vornicus>
Arg. Tired /and/ bored.
23:14
< aoanla>
Which reminds me; what /did/ you decide on the point/vector class issue?
23:18
<@Vornicus>
I'm going to go with just vectors.
23:18
<@Vornicus>
Also I have to beat C with the "vectors /are/ translations" stick.
23:18
< aoanla>
It's a good stick.
23:20
<@Vornicus>
except that I was hoping you or Chalain would apply the stick more properly - I can't seem to figure out a way to get there
23:22
<@Vornicus>
If I understand it correctly, he's trying to overgeneralize vectors - saying (among other things) that the scale on the various dimensions doesn't even have to be /vaguely/ the same thing (see the height/weight example he uses), but not even the whole "time and space are two similar dimensions" allows that, seeing as you multiply/divide one of them by c to make them match (and I think space is actually imaginary, but you know that stuff better
23:25
<@Vornicus>
did that all get through?
23:25
<@ToxicFrog>
" but you know that stuff better "
23:25
<@Vornicus>
ah, so close. "than I do)"
23:26 * aoanla hrms.
23:26 * aoanla goes back and rereads C's comments.
23:29 * aoanla notes that a vector is /not/ just an n-part number.
23:30
< aoanla>
It's a rank 1 tensor.
23:30
<@Vornicus>
23:31
<@Vornicus>
I really need to learn about what tensors actually /are/, really - none of my math work, ever, has relied on them, and I keep thinking they're kinda scary.
23:31
<@TheWatcher>
The more you read about them, the tensor you'll get, too
23:31 * aoanla tries to work how how best to describe a tensor.
23:31
<@Vornicus>
What is it with you and stupid puns, anyway?
23:31
< aoanla>
(Tenser, said the tensor.)
23:31
< aoanla>
It's a reference to "The Demolished Man", I /hope/.
23:32
<@Vornicus>
...okay, don't read Mathworld for what tensors are, the syllable average in the first paragraph is about 3.
23:34
< aoanla>
Briefly, a rank n tensor is an n-dimensional array /with the property that it is independant of the basis functions of the space it exists in/.
23:34
< aoanla>
Which sets various properties of how rotations etc affect it.
23:35
<@Vornicus>
...so, in short, his height/weight example doesn't describe a vector because it /does/ depend on the basis functions?
23:36
< aoanla>
Well, "height-weight" space isn't really a "space".
23:36
<@Vornicus>
...that too, but.
23:37
< aoanla>
Well, it's the most fundamental reason why it isn't a vector.
23:37
< aoanla>
Except in a loose "it's an array" sense.
23:37
<@Vornicus>
so is a complex number a vector?
23:37
< aoanla>
In the complex plane, yes.
23:38
< aoanla>
Although, technically, it's a just a complex scalar.
23:38
< aoanla>
A complex vector has more than one complex number in it.
23:39
<@Vornicus>
ok
23:39
< aoanla>
But complex spaces make my head hurt when I imagine them.
23:41
<@Vornicus>
I once drew the curve of (-e)^x over the domain of real numbers. It's this awesome helix.
23:41 * aoanla nods.
23:42
<@Vornicus>
(actually if you want to get technical, it's an infinity of helical curves, with attractors)
23:46
< aoanla>
(I'm still amused that there's an infinite number of solutions to ln(x) )
23:46
<@Vornicus>
(yeah)
23:46
< aoanla>
(although, obviously, a maximum of one Real solution)
