Man, the Zachtronics OSTs are so good
06:35
<@celticminstrel>
Maybe I should try to actually finish SpaceChem someday.
06:35
< McMartin>
SpaceChem... goes places.
06:35
< McMartin>
It's also very, hrm, nonrepresentative.
06:36
< McMartin>
The Defense missions in particular were a design element that he firmly yeeted out the window and never revisited.
06:36
< McMartin>
Of the later games that "look like programming", EXAPUNKS is the one I like the most, and of the ones that don't (but still basically are), Opus Magnum gets my highest rating.
06:37
<@celticminstrel>
Speaking of games that “look like programming”, what happened to that Flash(?) game? Factorio or something?
06:37
< McMartin>
https://zachtronics.bandcamp.com/track/network-exploration
06:38
< McMartin>
Factorio isn't a flash game and it's not really a programming game
06:38
< McMartin>
It's a constructors-and-conveyors game with tower defense elements
06:38
<@celticminstrel>
I may be misremembering the name, tho “conveyors” does sound like it fits what I remember.
06:38
< McMartin>
It never grabbed me for some reason, but the similar first-person game Satisfactory grabbed me *very hard indeed*.
06:39
<@celticminstrel>
Whether it was Factorio or something else, ISTR it being a literal Turing machine?
06:39
< McMartin>
I do remember a flash game where you were pretending to use conveyors to move things around but which were actually ... yes that
06:39
< McMartin>
That was a flash game and I assume it died with Kongregate or whoever.
06:39
< McMartin>
I don't remember its name offhand. Someone might.
06:39
<@celticminstrel>
So it wasn’t Factorio after all.
06:39
< McMartin>
I don't think so
06:40
< McMartin>
Or if it was, it has been completely eclipsed by the game named Factorio.
06:40
< McMartin>
I do remember the game you describe though, where the gimmick was that you were testing robots but what you were really doing was building a Turing machine.
06:41 * McMartin does some wild google searches
06:41
< McMartin>
Manufactoria!
06:41
<@celticminstrel>
Ooh.
06:41
< McMartin>
I'm not 100% sure this is the thing
06:41
< McMartin>
But I'm about 95% sure.
06:42
<@celticminstrel>
Since we’re on about really old games, do you remember the one that was kinda like a 1D roguelike?
06:42 Kindamoody[zZz] is now known as Kindamoody
06:42
< McMartin>
Not at all.
06:42
<@celticminstrel>
Probably didn’t find it from here anyway.
06:43
<@celticminstrel>
Kinda wanna find it again tho. Maybe it’s still open in some long-forgotten tab on the old computer, tho that only helps if it still exists.
06:45
<@celticminstrel>
It wasn’t Flash tho.
06:47
< McMartin>
You are almost certainly not thinking of Half-Minute Hero but it's what's coming to mind for me given the very silly way it handled combat.
06:47
<@celticminstrel>
Yeah, this one was pure ASCII.
06:54
< McMartin>
Yeah, I don't think I ever saw the game you're thinking of.
06:55
<@celticminstrel>
Found a video of Half-Minute Hero’s combat, and it does look to follow the same general principle, only with nice graphics.

there were plenty of factory flash games.
08:05
< Alek>
PLENTY
08:05
<&McMartin>
Ho yez
08:05
<&McMartin>
But Manufactoria is almost certainly the one CM was talking about, as it was a brief craze in this very channel back in the day.
08:06
< Alek>
plausible enough for me. :P

kdenlive it's called and I've not hand to consult a video tutorial or google for instructions in order to put together a video of a movie file, a still image and a sound file. The hardest part was figuring out where the export button/command is, but I managed that, too.
