Fascinating bug with my new optical USB mouse: movement and *only* movement intermittently cuts out. Scroll wheel and button click keep working, so the cable is fine. I've tried moving the mouse on another surface. No dice, the cursor sits in place. Inconsistently.

IIRC it's usually fixed if I rub my finger over the sensor a bit.

if I connect my bluetooth mouse on my work laptop, disconnect the power supply, and reconnect it, I'll have periodic freezes of the whole system for 3 seconds every few minutes. the keyboard won't even buffer my key presses.

Is it wireless? They often have a setting to stop shining the laser so much. Sometimes they overdo it.
