Did that issue get fixed? Z-lining people who say supernets?
02:49
< Kizor>
What was it that abudhabi said about supernets? Oh right:
02:49
< Kizor>
One wonders if supernets actually sent these, or if it's an attempt to make supernets look bad. I struggle to imagine why someone would do this.
02:50
<~Vornicus>
not enough
02:51
< Kizor>
Fair enough

My working theory for this stuff is inevitably it's a form of raid on someone's server; there'll be a newbie who showed up, possibly a few days ago, and has hung about and then suddenly all these shit spams blast around the place and they get to sit back and watch a network be belagured by annoyed people showing up to tell them off.
02:54
<&Reiver>
It's more effective than trolling a server directly, because as you'll note, spamming *real* servers is not especially effective once people raise the defenses.
02:55
<&Reiver>
And, like, 99% of us do not give a shit beyond the minor irritation of a frivolous highlight.
02:55
<&Reiver>
Real people showing up to tell you off, though... presumably stings.
02:56
<~Vornicus>
but it's always the same network that gets named, which is weird
02:57
<&Reiver>
My assumption is grudge-matchery of some variety
02:57
<~Vornicus>
like I don't remember seeing another network get named in these ever
02:58
<&Reiver>
Oh. Huh.
02:58
<&Reiver>
I'd suggest it's a trap to get people to click on suspicious links, but I can't think what security holes are in IRC in the modern era to be targeted on.

Because they've been doing this for fucking /ages/, I'm on team "they're actually dicks" rather than team Joe Job.

gnolam: Actually dicks, and the IRC URL they advertise is... real?
09:02
<&Reiver>
... ah, so people show up and tell them off and they get to collect salt for their popcorn?

<&ToxicFrog>
Yeah, I'm assuming this is just a form of internetwork trolling.
17:13
<&ToxicFrog>
I mean, the point of intrachannel trolling is to say things so stupid and/or offensive that everyone yells at you
