mac: I'll admit I'm not familiar enough with the field, but I literally have a CPU with integrated graphics on the chip, not on the motherboard.
02:36
<@macdjord>
Alek: Huh. Interesting.
02:37
< Alek>
there are whole series of CPUs with integrated graphics.
02:45
<&McMartin>
Yeah, that's most chips going back to like 2010, unless you get a special SKU that doesn't have it
02:47
<&ToxicFrog>
AMD calls theirs "APUs" and they sell both APU (on-die graphics) and CPU (no on-die graphics, for headless or paired with PCIe or northbridge graphics) versions of most of their processors.
02:48
<&ToxicFrog>
And yeah, the first AMD APUs hit the market ~12 years ago.
02:59
<&McMartin>
The first usable Intel integrated graphics IME came with Sandy Lake, about the same time frame
02:59
<&McMartin>
HD 4000 or some such
03:23
<&ToxicFrog>
Sandy Bridge?
03:26
<&McMartin>
2011-era Intel chips

<&McMartin>
And yes, Bridge, Lake are the new ones, circuit crossed

mine's an AMD and was definitely called a CPU, actually. *shrugs*

Laptop might just be defective. I tried to get external monitor - a proper HDMI one - to work with a Mint live USB, and it wasn't seen.
15:57
< abudhabi>
Not even Windows reinstall helped. Time to submit a defective hardware claim.
16:13
<&ToxicFrog>
Alek: they might have stopped calling them APUs at some point, but that was definitely the marketing term ~10 years ago when they were the shiny new thing
16:22
<&[R]>
They did AIUI
16:23
<&[R]>
Somewhat recently that branding was dropped
16:33
<~Vornicus>
have you not managed to get actual drivers for your graphics card
17:08
< abudhabi>
Vornicus: Who, me? That was the first thing I tried.
17:10
< abudhabi>
The laptop came with preinstalled, but somewhat old drivers. I installed new ones. Then I reinstalled them just in case something went wrong. Then I reinstalled the system to try the old drivers again.

did you remember to reboot after the installs?
17:54
< abudhabi>
There was no shortage of rebooting over the last week.

Love how termux provides a means to export contacts, but not to import them

<&ToxicFrog>
At a guess, this is because it's a lot easier to get `read contacts` permission than `write contacts`
