Well, that was kinda dumb, but I finished up the last bits of last year's Advent of Code

< abudhabi_>
The worst thing about using ChatGPT as a search engine for obscure topics is that if it cites an academic paper, I can't be sure that it really exists.
18:19
<@TheWatcher>
It's even more fun when students blindly copy the stuff into their work.
18:19
<@celticminstrel>
On the contrary.
18:20
<@celticminstrel>
If it cites an obscure paper, you can be almost certain that it doesn't exist.
18:35
<@ErikMesoy>
That reminds me of a ha-ha-only-serious essay that I saw, arguing that GPT was a great fit for classified documents and intelligence handling.
18:35
<@celticminstrel>
XD
18:36
<@ErikMesoy>
Instead of managing the clearances of a thousand handlers, a thousand managers, a thousand secretaries, etc. who have to be micromanaged for who they're allowed to know about in cells, feed all the spy data into GPT and ask it questions.
18:36
<@ErikMesoy>
GPT, by current observations, will be great at reporting on overall contents and synthesizing patterns it observes in the spy data, but terrible at identifying any one specific source (like an academic paper) so the spies are safe!
18:38
<@ErikMesoy>
There will be much less need to worry about leaks when most people's access to the classified documents is gone, instead the documents are largely read by GPT + author, and most people ask the GPT about it.
