In Windows, double-clicking the top edge of a window expands it vertically in bother directions to take up the whole height of the screen, and locks it so that it can be slid but not moved above or below the edge of the screen.
02:26
< gizmore|2>
you guys are still double clicking edges by accident?

<@macdjord>
I use this all the time; I find fullscreen windows on widescreen monitors uncomfortably wide for most purposes. Vertical expansion and locking lets me get most of the benefit of a fullscreened window while keeping it at my preferred width (which is, probably not coincidentally, about a 4:3 ratio).
02:30
< gizmore>
i am on 4:3 again
02:30
< gizmore>
because the other monitor broke
02:30
< gizmore>
it was weird in the first day. but meanwhile i am fine with 4:3 again
02:32
<@macdjord>
I generally either right-align or left-align the resulting windows; the leftover gutter either servers as a place to keep an eye on some other window (e.g. leaving IRC visible there so I can check for new messages with a glance) or I end up with one left-aligned and one right-aligned window and swap between them by clicking on the part of the inactive window that's visible in ther gutter.
02:42
< gizmore>
my irc setup is kvirc with 20+networks and maybe 80+ channels
02:43
< gizmore>
then one guy is dying in my mmo a lot, and it always takes 1 minute to mark it read everywhere
02:44
< gizmore>
another problem is that i changed kvirc highlighting and i cannot distingush me getting highlighted anymore
03:32
<@celticminstrel>
It's not my fault, my mouse does it on its own.
03:33
<@celticminstrel>
I'm just going about my business and click on a window and bam, suddenly it expanded.
03:44
< gizmore>
use it to your advantage
03:44
< gizmore>
do you know cookie clicker?
03:44
<@celticminstrel>
Pffffft
03:55
<@macdjord>
celticminstrel: Honestly, it sounds like the problem here is your mouse, not the interface. You can hardly expect GUI designers to design for 'mouse with a debounce problem' as a primary use case. (Well, okay, you /can/, but only for things like confirmation boxes and irreversable actions.)
03:56
<@celticminstrel>
I'm pretty sure I wouldn't use the feature even if my mouse didn't have an issue.
03:56
<@celticminstrel>
So honestly I'd just like some way to turn it off somehow…
04:06

That one seems familiar, tho I don't remember the tooltip at all.

< Alek>
mac, double-clicking the bottom edge does the same thing as the top edge.
