gnolam: My understanding is to avoid exact-match filters

<&Reiver>
Which rapidly becomes a race between the remainder of human readability and the ability of spam-detection to swat them
00:21
<&[R]>
Gossian filters tho

Text messages don't have spam filters though, do they?
00:25
<~Vornicus>
they do

On Android at least
00:51
<&Reiver>
Yup, I actually get "Caution this may be spam" on a bunch of mine now

Gotta play dat game etc

03:29 * Reiver attempts to Hardware Engineer, fails horribly
03:29
<&Reiver>
I have a GeForce 1070 in my PC which comes with 1x HDMI and 2x DisplayPort plug holes in the back.
03:32
<&Reiver>
I have two 27" 1080p monitors with HDMI ports in them.
03:32
<&Reiver>
And now a brand new Sony x90j smart TV bolted to my wall. It is *very* shiny.
03:33
< Alek>
D:
03:33
<&Reiver>
Its AndroidTV capabilities mean I can do an awful lot via inbuilt apps and ChromeCast but I still want my TV to be able to push pixels to it so we can, I dunno, play Tekken on it or etc
03:34
<&Reiver>
But this requires presumably figuring out cables. (I looked into MiraCast or the like but it seems this is no longer a thing?)
03:35
<&Reiver>
It also has a truckload of ports in it, but I'm not sure just what I actually want to talk with X to Y etc to make it, y'know, *work*. https://www.sony.co.nz/electronics/televisions/x90j-series/specifications
03:36
<&Reiver>
Currently one of my monitors runs an HDMI cable to it, while the other uses a Displayport To HDMI connector to plug into the DisplayPort.
03:36
<&Reiver>
I'm not sure if it's better to use th esecond DisplayPort or hook *both* monitors to such adapters and then run the TV off of HDMI or or or
03:37
<&Reiver>
And holy god but there are so *many* different connectors etc and waugh https://www.pbtech.co.nz/category/peripherals/cables/hdmi-cables?sfr=HDMI+cable

HDMI to TV. HDMI->DIsplayport for monitor.
03:54
< Mahal>
Rationale is simple: sound thru displayport converter = no bueno.
03:54
< Mahal>
(I think it can work but it's a dick to get right)
03:54
< Mahal>
HDMI->TV = No Fucking Around, Bob
04:11
<&Reiver>
Oh man
04:11
<&Reiver>
And that is why I ask this shit
04:11
<&Reiver>
Thank you!
04:11
<&Reiver>
Actually I want DisplayPort->HDMI adapters don't I
04:11
<&Reiver>
I understand these are one-way tech, not reversible?
04:15
< Mahal>
Uh - yeah
04:15
< Mahal>
sorry, had to re-read the original specs again
04:15
< Mahal>
:D
04:35
< Alek>
Displayport>HDMI for the monitors, HDMI direct for the TV so you take advantage of the TV's own speakers for sound - unless you have better ones.
04:35
< Alek>
just my 2c.
04:36
< Alek>
my dad recently picked up a 2-monitor stand for free, monitors included. matching. but one has a HDMI cable and the other has a HDMI/DP cable that has innate conversion. HDMI and DP have different picture quality, and DP doesn't allow us to change the video settings on the monitor itself. -_-
04:37
< Alek>
the cables are hardwired to the stand, otherwise we'd have swapped out the converting one for a VGA one.
05:36
<&Reiver>
Thanks folks
05:36
<&Reiver>
This stuff hurts my brain.
05:36 * Reiver mutters something about VGA cables being good enough, kvetch kvetch nyah

VGA can handle 2k at least, IIRC, possibly even 4k
08:16
< Alek>
definitely not 8k. the HDMI 2.0 protocol and cables can supposedly handle 16k though.
08:34
<@sshine>
I just moved a project from github to self-hosted gitea.
08:35
<@sshine>
right off the bat we're kinda losing ci/cd (needs to be set up separately). but the first win is that I added MathJax rendering of equations in markdown + issues. :)
