<&McMartin>
(And indeed it was through his "Applied Cryptography" textbook that I learned them)
00:02
< Yossarian>
I desperately need a reading device, dual screens, for textbooks. Haven't read any textbooks in awhile
00:03
< Yossarian>
i have one or two books with me, rest are in storage :(
00:03
<&McMartin>
That's one I don't own personally, I must admit
00:03
<&McMartin>
But I acknowledge it as a classic
00:06
< Yossarian>
I actually salvaged thrown away HP tc4200 (convertable tablet lappy) and HP tc4400, but the tc4400 won't show on display. tc4200 will boot media but it has IDE and requires one of those $2 converter caddies for HDD... keyboard has a dead matrix seems like, have to use USB one... I want to see if the digitizer on the screen works at all but haven't been able to get a liveusb boot to
00:07
< Yossarian>
something that will load xorg yet... was thinking they're both messed up, maybe use them for parts.
00:07
< Yossarian>
build the reader like that, but they're only 1024x768, besides one seeming to be dead and having digitizers (for stylus, not sure about touch)

If you can dig up a second hand Lenovo Helix 2 somewhere they're flat garbage as laptops but make excellent reading tablets

< Yossarian>
I'm thinking about getting a RPi 4.
08:48
< Yossarian>
Anyone here have much luck with x86 emulation of RPi 4?

I have three actual rpis (2/3) lying around so I've never tried to emulate them or cross-compile for them, I just use the actual hardware
14:18
<&ToxicFrog>
That said I'm pretty sure qemu has an ARM mode

21:10 * TheWatcher readsup, is confused /why/ you'd emulate a pi
21:10
<@TheWatcher>
unless you mean simulated hardware connected to one, otherwise... run debian?
21:13
<&McMartin>
TheWatcher: Checking cross-compiled code before deployment is the obvious first use case
21:13
<&McMartin>
The other would be VC4 drivers etc
21:14
<&McMartin>
Especially if it's not a Pi 3 or later, actually compiling large applications *for* the Pi *on* the Pi is hot garbage
21:14
