<&[R]>
Okay, so I think I derped somewhere
03:53
<&McMartin>
Our vast army of rubber ducks is ready to help you sort this out
03:53
<&[R]>
I have a pattern of associated values. 5 is 43, 6 is 63, 7 is 87, 8 is 115, 9 is 147
03:53
<&[R]>
It looks like 5->6 is an increase of 20, 6->7 is an increase of 24, 7->8 is 28
03:54
<&[R]>
So I calculated the missing values as: 1 is 1, 2 is 5, 3 is 13, 4 is 27
03:54
<&[R]>
[1,5,13,27,43,63,87,115,147] <-- if you want a nice array of them
03:54
<&[R]>
Since the increments are all multiples of 4, and the base is 1 I had assumed that they'd all have the same n % 4 value
03:55
<&[R]>
But they don't
03:55
<&[R]>
Where's my fuckup
03:55
<&[R]>
> [1,5,13,27,43,63,87,115,147].map((n, i) => (n-1)/4)
03:55
<&[R]>
[ 0, 1, 3, 6.5, 10.5, 15.5, 21.5, 28.5, 36.5 ]
03:58
<&[R]>
[3, 8, 15, 27, ...]
03:59
<&[R]>
[3, 7, 15, 27, ...]*
04:04
<&[R]>
Ends up that n*(n-1)*2+3 is the formula

Hmmm. Friend of mine reports burning through 15 CD-ROM drives in 10 years, is not using home-burned CDs, has enough computer experience to handle other parts normally and assemble a computer so it's probably not 'cupholder' errors, compares this to how other people report struggling with printers. Anyone's radar going BING, as Malal put it?

Is there perhaps something about using old CDs that burns through new drives fast?

Last CD drive before those 10 years had lasted several years and was fine until stuff started going wrong around a certain time.
