11.6G scanned out of 5.93T at 13.2M/s, 130h6m to go

<&McMartin>
?
02:54
<&ToxicFrog>
McMartin: I'm migrating ancilla to new hardware.
02:54
<&McMartin>
resilvering sounds like an unusually alarming process
02:54
<&ToxicFrog>
Part of this involves hooking up all the old drives and the new drives at the same time and migrating all the data to the new drives, by, in effect, turning each drive pair into a RAID1 mirror until both drives are in sync and then detaching the old drive.
02:54
<&ToxicFrog>
"resilvering" is the ZFS equivalent of a RAID rebuild.
02:55
<&McMartin>
aha
02:55
<&ToxicFrog>
I'm just disappointed at the amount of time it's going to take.
02:55
<&McMartin>
Things that are slower than modern network connections
02:55
<&ToxicFrog>
This is the full output: http://ix.io/1yPu
02:56
<&ToxicFrog>
In this case, the new drive is connected via 6GBps SATA (but it's a mechanical HDD, so it won't ever approach those speeds)
02:56
<&ToxicFrog>
...and all four of the old drives are sharing a single USB3 connection
02:57
<&ToxicFrog>
While this is in progress, though, ancilla has 12 drives attached to it, which I think may be a new personal record.

I fucking hate MTP so much
12:28
<&[R]>
Just let me fucking mount the thing
12:28
<@TheWatcher>
Amen.
12:49
<&[R]>
OMFG the libmtp utils are stupid as fuck
12:49
<&[R]>
I shouldn't have to fucking script them to get a mirror of the device

https://gist.github.com/RobinStamer/58eed40ff5f34a8aa9cdd3f223f3468a <-- my super amazing mirror script
12:52
<&[R]>
I keep having to renable mtp on my phone though
13:02
<&[R]>
...
13:02
<&[R]>
This phone disables MTP when the lock screen comes up
13:02
<&[R]>
D:
13:12
<&ToxicFrog>
IME you will save a lot of time and frustration by immediately punting MTP and going straight to sftp to get stuff on/off the phone
13:12
<&[R]>
I'll have to look into that later
13:12
<&[R]>
Right now I need some files off of it right now
13:14
<&ToxicFrog>
Right, my point is that MTP will probably not help you with that
13:14
<&ToxicFrog>
If you have any machine on your network you can already ssh into it, it will almost certainly be much faster and more reliable to just install andFTP and copy the files over the network that way.
13:15
<&ToxicFrog>
If you don't, it might still be faster to install and set up ftpd or sshd on one of your machines, rather than spending hours fighting with MTP and trying to figure out why half the files don't show up or why every copy is actually the first 16KB of the file repeated over and over again.
