Anyone know how to make Thunderbird download ALL mail?
10:38
<@abudhabi>
Not just recent ones.
10:38
<@abudhabi>
I know the mails are on the mail server, I can access them via webmail.
10:52
<@gnolam>
So are you talking about local caching or do you want to go POP instead of IMAP and have them deleted from the server after you download them?
10:53
<@gnolam>
If the former, then File->Offline->Download/Sync Now
11:15
<@abudhabi>
gnolam: I want to keep them on the server, but I want a local copy of the whole shebang.
11:17
<@abudhabi>
Syncing claims everything is up to date.

<&ToxicFrog>
abudhabi: in tools -> accoutn settings -> synchronization -> advanced make sure all the directories have "download" checked.
14:27
<&ToxicFrog>
And make sure that it's set to "synchronize all messages locally regardless of age" and that "don't sync messages larger than ____" is unchecked.
14:37
<@abudhabi>
ToxicFrog: There are no "account settings" under Tools. Neither is there anything like "synchronization" under the Account Settings.
14:38
<@abudhabi>
ToxicFrog: I'm using Thunderbird 60.2.1.
14:49 * iospace hats ToxicFrog and sighs
14:49
<&ToxicFrog>
abudhabi: sorry, that should have been edit -> account settings, and on tbird 5.2 it's account settings -> [name of specific account] -> sync and storage
14:49
<&ToxicFrog>
Er, tbird 52
14:50
<&ToxicFrog>
If they've rearranged it in 60 I've got no idea, sorry.
14:50 * ToxicFrog offers iospace tea
14:50 * iospace sips it
14:50
<@iospace>
job hunting is such shit
14:51
<@TheWatcher>
I'm using 60.4.0, so in that it's Tools -> Account Settings, and then in the account settings window is't "Synchronisation & Storage" -> Disc Space box, "Synchronise all messages locally regardless of age"
14:55
<@abudhabi>
TheWatcher: ToxicFrog: This is all I have there. https://i.imgur.com/4D7U3ch.png
14:57
<@abudhabi>
This is POP, BTW.
14:59
<~Vorntastic>
Reminds me I haven't sat down to set up Thunderbird on my new computer
14:59
<@abudhabi>
(Exactly what I'm trying to do now.)
15:00
<~Vorntastic>
(imap is so much nicer)
15:03
<@abudhabi>
(I just want local copies of everything locally. And none of the remote folder bullshit that's different for every provider.)
15:14
<&ToxicFrog>
(as in, local copies of everything and nothing at all on the server, right?)
15:14
<&ToxicFrog>
(because that's what POP does. If you want to keep anything on the server you need to use IMAP, and also find a way to upload all the stuff you previously downloaded back to the server.)
15:15
<@abudhabi>
(No, I want the server to retain everything. Just in case.=
15:15
<&ToxicFrog>
(then you should not be using POP)
15:15
<~Vorntastic>
^
15:15
<@abudhabi>
I've been using POP previously for who knows how long, and it was working the way I wanted.
15:15
<@abudhabi>
Now it doesn't, and I wonder what gives.
15:16
<@gnolam>
It shouldn't have.
15:19
<@abudhabi>
I had Thunderbird, one of the previous versions, set up with "POP and leave a copy on the server too". It worked just as described. It was not IMAP, because IMAP produces all these crappy remote folders, which the previous config didn't.
15:22
<@abudhabi>
The messages are all there on the server... why won't it just spit them out?
15:37
<@abudhabi>
There we go!
15:37
<@abudhabi>
Had to reset the pop state on the server.

<@iospace>
also I see you ToxicFrog :P
17:46
