06:23 * Vornicus tries to figure out how best to arrange some logic
06:36
<~Vornicus>
So, I have paths with junctions; each path is a simple line segment, and I know where it intersects with others. It's also possible for a path to have a dead end. The gondola moves along the path. If it reaches a junction and the controls include a push to the side of the path, the gondola should take that side path. If it reaches the end and it's a junction, it *must* take a side path; if there's a push it uses that, but otherwise it
06:36
<~Vornicus>
prefers right turns if available. And if it's a dead end it must stop.
06:39 * McMartin notices some backscroll, ....s.

<&McMartin>
"| xargs echo" means you might as well just run find, TW.
06:39
<&McMartin>
I'm going to credit this to critical tea failure
06:40
<~Vornicus>
So I have to know when I'm at a junction and when I'm at the end of the line.
06:40
<&McMartin>
Vornicus: That sounds like a job for a nav mesh
06:41
<~Vornicus>
Probably I should be turning it into a real nav mesh, yes.
06:42
<&jeroud>
McMartin: Not entirely true. xargs can split a large parameter list into multiple command invocations.
06:46
<~Vornicus>
last time I tried that I ended up doing it by hand. It was incredibly annoying to debug, too
06:47
<&McMartin>
If you're building the screen from tiles, you could fabricate a mesh from a BFS traversal of the world, right?
06:48
<~Vornicus>
I'm not building the screen from tiles.
06:49
<&McMartin>
Ah.
06:51 * Vornicus tries to figure out what his nav mesh data would look like.
06:59
<~Vornicus>
each edge has: a primary direction; the direction the gondola should travel if forced to each side; the direction the gondola should travel if drifting (so it drifts toward docks when near them), and the vertices on each end. Each vertex has: ...whether it's a stop spot or not, the edges it attaches to in each direction.

McMartin: so, you have -- or had, I don't know if you're still using it -- a System 76 Gazelle 7
22:00
<&ToxicFrog>
Did you ever get it to (or attempt to get it to) boot in UEFI mode?
22:01
<&ToxicFrog>
It has a "launch EFI shell from filesystem" option in the firmware, but if I feed it a disk with an ESP partition it just ignores it and skips to the next entry in the boot order. Nor can I find any way to force it to boot in EFI mode.
22:02
<&McMartin>
I still have it and use it
22:02
<&McMartin>
I never attempted to alter its boot profile.
22:03
<&ToxicFrog>
Do you happen to know if it's booting in UEFI mode by default?
22:03
<&ToxicFrog>
(if it did, then /sys/firmware/efi will exist, /boot/efi probably will as well, and running "efibootmgr" might work)
22:05
<&McMartin>
I can check. One moment.
22:07
<&McMartin>
Neither of the two files you describe are present.
22:07
<&McMartin>
Under sys/firmware there is only acpi and memmap.

<&ToxicFrog>
Damn. Thanks for checking.
22:17
<&ToxicFrog>
Hmm. Some research indicates that the Galago Ultrapro, released at about the same time, has the same behaviour (there's a "start EFI shell" command but no way of booting in EFI mode), and the solution was a BIOS update. There don't seem to be any BIOS updates available for the gazp7, though.
22:17 * ToxicFrog sends them a message
22:18
<&ToxicFrog>
I would really like to get orias as everything-on-zfs before I merge it with ancilla, but if I can't boot it in EFI mode, I can't do that.
22:18
<&ToxicFrog>
Or rather, I probably can, but it's far too much of a pain in the ass.
22:18
<&McMartin>
I've been considering getting a hardware refresh - the gazp7 is a bit elderly at this point and I can't really game with it - but it otherwise does what I need
22:18 * ToxicFrog nods
22:19
<&ToxicFrog>
I refreshed last year because the battery life was down to about 15-20 minutes
22:19
<&McMartin>
Yep
22:19
<&McMartin>
And they'd stopped producing the batteries
22:19
<&McMartin>
However, some other guys had not, and I picked up a replacement on Black Friday for 75% off
22:19
<&ToxicFrog>
These days I value battery life a lot more than I used to, and 15 minutes is pretty bad even if I didn't
22:19
<&McMartin>
It has been serving me well ever since.
22:19
<&ToxicFrog>
That was in fact its second battery! Both the first and the second degraded remarkably quickly.
22:20
<&McMartin>
Yeah, this is my third.
22:20
<&McMartin>
This is a third-party battery
22:20
<&McMartin>
Who I think at this point I owe a very nice review of on Amazon.
22:20
<&ToxicFrog>
I'm now using it a server, which means that the battery is a tertiary power supply after mains and the UPS.
22:20
<&ToxicFrog>
*using it as
22:20
<&ToxicFrog>
(I replaced it with a Lenovo T550, which I am extremely happy with)
22:21
<&McMartin>
Yeah, my hard-work laptop now is a new MBP, because I have to do iOS dev at work and Apple can extort me
22:22
<&ToxicFrog>
This is just a personal laptop; my work laptop is a Lenovo Carbon X1 mk 3.
22:22
<&ToxicFrog>
Dual-purposing doesn't work so well considering how much custom stuff is involved in both cases.
22:22
<&McMartin>
Yeah
22:22
<&McMartin>
Anyway: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KSUM0UU?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_deta ilpage_o02_s00
22:23
<&McMartin>
This battery has worked superbly in my gazp7; it's too early to say whether it's done better than the first battery, but it has already outperformed the second by an embarassingly good factor.
22:23
<&ToxicFrog>
(work laptop runs a google-custom fork of ubuntu with the TPM enabled and a bunch of other stuff; I run openSUSE with ZFS everywhere I can get away with)
22:24
<&ToxicFrog>
Iiiiiiinteresting.
22:24
<&ToxicFrog>
This implies that the gazp7 chassis, like the Galago, is Clevo hardware
22:24
<&ToxicFrog>
I wonder if I can figure out the exact model and get a BIOS update from Clevo
